Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the goal of Early Childhood Education should not be to fill the child with facts from a pre-selected course of studies, but to cultivate the child's own natural desire to learn.
Montessori often compared the child's mind to a sponge, it literally absorbs information from the environment. Because children choose their own activities according to their interests, a wide range of materials are available corresponding to their needs.
Since children learn at their own pace, many frequently exceed public norms for academic achievement. However, academic acceleration is not our basic goal. The main goals of The Montessori School of Madison are to help each child develop a positive self image, an enjoyment of school, independence and a life-long love of learning.
